Reading & writing

A lot of people believe that readers are not writers. And yet some believe that not all writers are proficient readers. I don’t know about the others but for me reading and writing go hand in hand, it is like the same coin with two sides. Hear me out, I am not saying that one compulsorily follows the other, meaning that if you are a reader you don’t necessarily have to become a writer and vice versa. But it is something that goes without saying that you have it in you.

Let’s take the side of the reader first. Even if you are just a reader, you probably have written a book review at some point of time, however short or concise, I am pretty sure, it has crossed your path and it may not have made you feel like a writer but it most certainly made you play with words.

Now, if I see things from the view of a writer, and from a personal point of view, there is no one without the other. For me it never was and can never be one without the other. First, I became a reader, then I fell in love with words, and only then did I decide to become a writer. So, contrary to what other people think, I feel that reading and writing goes hand in hand. In fact, there are always pros when you do both, helping you grow in the said aspects. When you read better literature you write better words, and when you write better, you are bringing good literature for the future readers. I even read somewhere that for every five pages you write, you should read fifteen pages of a book. And come to think of it, it sounds perfect. So, irrespective of if you are one or not, it is only a matter of time till you realise that you are interested in words and not just in one part of it.

Enlighten me with your thoughts on this? Who are you, a reader or a writer or both?

I completely agree with you that reading helps in making your writing better and thus it helps in creating quality content for other readers.

I agree, you can’t be a writer and not a reader. They are forever joined.
