Wondering why?

Published by

on

I don’t know why, but the darker the book’s plot, the more I tend to like it, so much so that I read it again and again.

So what is the darkest book you have read more than once?

Mine is:

A thousand splendid suns

-Khaled Hooseini.

“A House Without Windows”, Nadia Hashimi. Not really dark but a moving tale of a strong woman.

I am not an avid fan of English novels or books, but am a die hard Hindi novel reader. There is a novel by Bhagwati Charan Verma “भूले बिसरे चित्र” I have read it several times. If you want to read some brilliant scenes of British era and true picture of India through its history, go through it once. Beautiful plot.

Thank you for sharing your book.
And I feel that it needn’t have been in any particular language. Language is just a means to convey ones feelings.
      Thanks Gouarav.

Hmm, A Thousand Splendid Suns is not a book I would describe as dark. It has a lot of tragedy and horror in it but ultimately I found it uplifting and I thought its overall message was one of hope. Among all the awful events and awful people, there were good people who rose above their circumstances, who showed kindness towards each other, who demonstrated the power of love and friendship. I’m getting teary eyed just thinking about it. Books that I think of as dark and that I’ve enjoyed include Blindness, 1984, The Secret History and We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Thanks for sharing your views. They seem to be apt too. In a way ti is uplifting, but whenever I think of the book, what comes to my mind is not the positive aspects but the cruel treatment of Miriam.

I can’t read a book more than once but the most disturbing book I ever read was “Perfect Victim: The True Story of “The Girl in the Box” – it was awful!!!
