Lost Opportunities!

Published by

What do you do when an opportunity knocks at your door, a good opportunity that you were not seeking, that you were not waiting for, and which came out of the blue? A normal human like you would open the door in a flick and grab that opportunity to may be never let it go, right? But the ever questioning woman that I am, the ever reasonable and rationale seeking person that I am, always, always does otherwise. I, for that matter, when an opportunity knocks, do not grab hold of it. What I do is, I open the door, pick it up, trying to make myself feel that I might just keep it this time, but instead set it aside and leave the room, the house, and run ย away, as far away as I can.

It is not that I donโ€™t ever want that chance; I am a human after all. But every single time, reasons and other plights and scrapes take hold over that door and shut its bolts.

Well, I am not complaining, I cannot. It was my decision, and I am in all means responsible for it. Neither do I regret it, nor this time, nor have I ever. Every single time I bid adieu to something which I couldnโ€™t get hold of, I have never regretted it. Sometimes it might have made me nostalgic, a bit sentimental may be, but as time elapses I get over it.

But what keeps me going is the road beyond that door, with no limits, the free air, the cool breeze, and those tiny little droplets of hope.

The process isnโ€™t easy though. ย Sometimes is crucial and sometimes itโ€™s a cakewalk, well it depends every time.

But every single time, I wonder what if this was my last opportunity? What if that door never opens again? What if nothing else comes up? What if I have exhausted all my opportunities? What if no other window opens up?

But then again, that is a chance I am willing to take, for the same sake of reasons and plights which I leave them.

They say, an opportunity lost is an opportunity gained, at least the optimists do. (Unlike the pessimists whose exhortation would be โ€œAn opportunity lost is lost forever) May be I gain another opportunity every single time, and may be some of these days; I am going to have to remind myself that their stock is being heaped down soon.

I could simply say, at this point, I can relate to Kazuo Ishiguro when he said, โ€œThere was another life that I might have had, but I am having this one.โ€

PS: Do you guys go through any of this? Do you regret your decisions? What do you think, is every opportunity lost, lost forever? Or do you think everything happens for a reason, and are a hopeless disciple of destiny?

I believe this is what is actually meant by ‘Listen to your Heart’ and live with no regrets. When a choice is ours to make we do ‘know’ it fully and easily. The what-ifs don’t help us and there is plenty ahead to choose from always!

i do not regret my choices for even the poor ones offer knowledge. not all opportunities are good ones, and it may be best to really look them over. if you are pressured to make a choice, then you are not doing it on your terms.

It is always to decide rightly or wrongly but one cannot be prisoner of decisions. your note is very good and life is a river flowing out in criss cross manner without caring for changing the course. so whatever comesyour way do grab it .Iwould do that.

I watched this bollywood movie called “yeh jawani hai dewani” where the leading actress says that when we catch up with something we tend to leave many things and opportunities behind afterall we are humans. So no regrets apart from opportunities missed by my own mistakes. And I am glad you are not regretful for this opportunities keep coming your fate will grab what is meant to be grabbed!

Moushmi I am in the same boat dear. More than the decisions I take, I regret the ones I did not take and feel like I let go a wonderful opportunity coming my way!

This is so me. Whatever I planned seems flop at the end. And now I believe that may be it happens for a reason and rather than regretting its better to go with the flow.

Yep, it sure is always good to go with the flow. Why cry and waste your time and energy. Instead, just be happy dear. Whatever happens, happens for a reason.

Not everything we get is right not everything we seek for is wrong…sometimes its just in between and patience is the game. It’s not that you always have to swim for the fight to survive ,sometimes its just about floating and finding our inner peace…and as far as opportunities door is concerned i believe its not about our Hands future lines its about our Hands work so keep doing what makes you feel right…

I over-think in such situations and regret and rue!!! But then ultimately console myself saying that everything happens for a reason! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Very thought provoking article Moishmi. While I believe there’s a reason for everything and our decisions determine what happens, I also believe that everything finally works out the way it was meant too. However, one must not sit back and simply wait for things to happen. We need to work towards making things happen.
