Hopes And Expectations!

Just wondering..

While on the one hand you are striving towards it, and on the other there is only faith and a vain belief.

What exactly happens?

Does that belief turn into the expectations that we are taught not to have?

Or the hope itself is a reflection on the said expectations which we are not suppose to have?

Or, is there a fine line between hope and expectations which I am blinded not to see?

Or they are just two words trying to play with my mind?

Any thoughts?

Hope and expectation are two different things for me. I consider hope as positive however expectation is abstract, depends on person

I remember writing on a similar topic in the year 2015, and reposting it in 2017: https://boringbug.com/2017/10/22/lessons-on-the-dilemma-of-expectations/

Albeit it was a naive post, however, there was still an intriguing thought attached to it. “Expectation in general stands for a belief of happening or awaiting of something inter alia a belief of something that is bound to happen in future.” It may not necessarily be positive.

Whereas, a hope stands for a belief which you aren’t expecting but rather want it to happen. It is always denoted as positive. A desire per se.

Hope has a positive vibe in it.. it’s powerful.. it inspires, it stays all along, it takes us ahead.. whereas expectations are momentary.. we’re broken if we don’t meet our expectations.. as I feel, as per my way of thinking. 😊
Thank you for this great post..!! 😇👌🏼💕

A thought provoking question Moushmi…….Hoping is surrendering and taking a leap of faith …. expectations are demands wrapped in ego ………hope nudges us to move ahead to achieve unachievable while expectations only cause hindrance and grief ……….. You can find hope even in failures while expectations lead to disappointments mostly…….. I would say they are two different things for me

Hope for me gives a positive Ray but expectations hurts so it’s better if you don’t expect anything from anyone.

To me hope is a wish. It would be nice to have. Expectations, though, are entitlements. I expect to have dinner tonight. I think much of our personal distress comes when our ideas of what we are entitled to are beyond what we really are. If I feel entitled to, and thus expect, a million dollar job, I’m going to be endlessly disappointed when I go for job interviews. On the other hand, I still hope that happens.

So I guess that also highlights another piece of the puzzle. If I get something that is my expectation I feel nothing special. I had breakfast about 20 minutes ago and I have already forgotten about it. It was nothing special. I expected it all along. But if someone gives me that million dollar job, getting something I hope for, I will feel happy and excited. The more remote the chance of getting what is hoped for the happier I will be.

“Hope is the thing with feathers
    That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
    And never stops at all.”

A thought provoking question indeed! For me – it is all about manifesting your deeds and good karma to change hope into belief!

I am not a philosopher by any measure but here is my take – when you nurture hope, you become a believer and as a believer, you sparkle positivity, with positiveness we take actions – and probably those actions helps us meet our expectations

I absolutely adore how you have taken up on this. The only thing that still bothers me is the. last ‘probably’!!!

Thank you, I said probably because uncertainty should be always considered, but you can hope to get going. 😊

i agree with how “the boring bug” explains the two.
a person should have both depending on the situation.
to be “taught” not to have either would only be a way to control someone.
