Writing Dilemma #2

Published by

One dilemma ends and another dawns.

I donโ€™t mind typing, considering that it does get easier and speedier, and also, sometimes it is way better for your lazy ass for its sole purpose of auto-correct. So, as soon as I had my laptop, I have been fluent with computers and typing. And I truly donโ€™t mind adapting to this, as I have a problem between the kindle and the paperbacks. But honestly, there are times when I donโ€™t have my laptop with myself, or I am just lazy enough to open it and do the necessary, or better still, I am nuzzled up under the sheets in the middle of the night and I want to write. At times like these, I love; I repeat I love my journal. I just happen to open it and scribble whatever, useless but considered by me, a piece of art that came to my mind. And this has been good, so far. But now after months of doing this (as I am determined to writing something at least everyday, presumably a poem) I have filled up more journals than e-files.

Now, it is easier, without the temptation of Google help, translations and a thesaurus, the art that I consider it to be, is purely original. However, the problem with this is, if at all I have any hope of publishing it, I have to have them as a soft copy. So, then comes the arduous task of typing it all over again. And f I have to do so this in the end, then why not do it in the first place itself, and I will be technically not wasting paper, pens and will be saving a lot of time instead.

Some might give me the solution of writing it in my phone at the times when I canโ€™t really go to my laptop and then sync it with my laptop and then the next time I open it, I can save the fileโ€ฆ. But you forget the aforementioned fact about me being a โ€œlazy-assโ€. This is just too much work for me. And if I keep doing what I am doing I might end with more notebooks by the end of the year, than I might have ever filled. Or there is another scenario, where I could simply write a small note and then open the laptop some other time and write my poetry then. But I am a 100% sure that by then I will have forgotten my very own thought.

Wow! Even with writing I am powerful enough to find dilemmas, or do the find me wherever I go? Who could tell? I am sure these โ€˜problemsโ€™ are secretively in love with me!! Do tell me if they let you know about their crush on me.

Also, share your thoughts on this writing-typing dilemma, if at all you face them. Or, is it just me who is old fashioned enough in even keeping a journal?

I have this dilemma too, so I push my laziness a little off and type it on my phone. It is well synced with my laptop so I don’t have to worry about getting it saved. But sometimes it is better to write in the journals, but nowadays because of this rigorous task of typing it all over again, I have curt short my time and thus have saved more time for laziness ๐Ÿ˜‰

That discovery moment surely comes… But it is somehow not recorded all the time… Not because of laziness may be, exhaustion is another key factor in this… I myself had a gap in this venture for around 6 months may be due to my job pressure… Many thoughts did arise that time, some lost, some still remain, finding out time to express them out…

The problem as I see lies in the need for publishing the contents of our journals, are they not meant for ourselves. But who am I to say anything on these artistic, writerly subject. I don’t keep a journal, for that matter I have forgotten how to write with a pen. A kindle, google, pixel type I will one day be replaced by a google writing bot

      Technology runs you?
But aren’t we all run by technology. All of these run me too, and I am expectantly waiting for kindle to tun me too!

technology doesnt run me, makes me lazy ๐Ÿ˜› I am a big fan of kindle, it reduces clutter, something that unromantic people really care about.

well I meant they like the feel(smell?) of paper, a book in their hands. gadgets dont go well with romanticism, but then now that I think about it..romantics do like clutter, they usually tend towards excess.

Hahaha, you seem to have a clear understanding of the romantics and the non-romantics.
I am still struggling to fit myself somewhere..

I write little notes in composition books, then try to make them into crude outlines. These are just memory prompts and not full sentences. I don’t think I can write anything substantial in a journal anymore, since I got used to using a word processor. Technology has made me lazy, as I use it for spelling assistance, but I try to do the grammar on my own, even though I make mistakes sometimes. Happy writing, and best of luck to you.

I have a bad bad handwriting and writing with pen is a much much tedious task compared to typing!! ๐Ÿ˜›What made my life easier was having a good phone with good typing features and which was near me whenever i had any thought to jot it down…and problem of syncing it or typing it again on laptop was not there…why? Because there are so many apps which autosync it for you nowadays…ie you type at one device…leave it…and after sometime open another device and continue from where you left off…cloud technology ๐Ÿ˜›…..for me it was google docs!! Itโ€™s awesome and gives a lot of flexibility to the lazy me…you can try it..it solves two big problems basically1) you never need to take any backup 2) you never need to type or copy again if you want to access from another device…..
to give you an idea of how i managed things … 1) i dont have a laptop for almost 4 years now!! I have used my mobile all along for everything!
    2) whenever i needed any formatting etc to be done i could do it from any desktop without typing or moving anything!!
    3) i wrote my book completely on my mobile only!! ๐Ÿ˜€
But having said the above, i guess pen and paper have their own charm!! I like it more compared to typed one (but not in my ugly handwriting ๐Ÿ™ˆ)…..but if you are aiming at publishing then try to adopt typing as it makes things much easier…cant look at paper and then type again and again…! ๐Ÿ˜ฃ

      Your book on your mobile!!
      God!!
I can’t even think that. I don’t know may be i am more habituated to my laptop and my journal, but i have never used my phone for even blogging, except for one or two times. And even then I just abhor the process. May be i just hate my phones so much because of its incessant disturbance.

I jot them down on pen and paper, then when I have time I write them on my phone, and sometimes on the phone itself. But a journal is always close to my heart, and I guess all the people who write.
